Travis Escobar
Vice President
ricscg@ric.edu The youngest member of the Executive Board, Travis Escobar entered Rhode Island College in the fall of 2008 after graduating from the Preparatory Enrollment Program (PEP).
Born and raised in Providence, Travis spent middle and high school as a student at Times Squared Academy.
During his time at Times2, Travis was unfocused and inactive as a student. Until his senior year he struggled academically and avoided after-school activities. Tired of the slacker lifestyle, Travis spent his senior year improving his grades and would graduate with high grades for the year and attend Rhode Island College in the fall via the school’s PEP program.
The Rhode Island College PEP program gave him the chance he needed to demonstrate excellence in his academics. Furthermore, it provided him with much-needed guidance to succeed in college.
Within his first month at Rhode Island College Travis, interested in politics and helping out his community decided to join Student Community Government, Inc. would be elected as a Freshmen Representative to parliament and as the President of the Freshman class.
Many of the senior members of parliament would take an immediate interest in Travis, who unlike the majority of parliament members had not lead or even been active in on-campus organizations. Under the tutelage of former Vice President Nigel Evangelista, Travis was active on a number of committees and commissions, most notably the Elections Commission, Public Relations Committee, Student Organization Committee and Finance Commission.
His hard work and dedication would pay off when he was voted most active parliament member of the year and was subsequently elected to serve as the Vice President of Student Community Government for 2009-2010.
Now as Vice President, Travis seeks a more efficient Student Community Government Inc. that is more students friendly and ultimately focuses on the needs of the students first.
